Ballet Recital 2011

Kaiya had her ballet recital in the park on Friday. She did an awesome job! This year she was in Primary Ballet, and this class is kinda the bridge between pre-ballet--which is all about wands and tutus and having fun--and real ballet. Primary ballet is a lot of barre work and they have to really start stretching. This is the year that weeds out a lot of girls. Luckily, Kaiya is still liking the whole ballet thing, which I'm super happy about.

And guess what! She was only a little bit nervous about the recital this year. Like normal person-nervous, not freak out, the world is going to end-nervous. Hooray!!! Afterward she said, "The dance recital was a lot of fun! I can't wait to do it again next year!" Wow. That was literally music to my ears.

Here's a little funny though....
In pre-ballet, the girls always get to wear pretty pink tutus. For Primary ballet, the girls were going to wear the black tutus, but they were only 1 tutu short. Therefore, they had to wear these red plaid cotton skirts. You should have seen the look of utter disappointment all over Kaiya's face when she laid eyes on the red cotton skirt for the first time. After all, isn't ballet all about wearing the pretty tutu?! She got over it though and I thought she looked adorable!

Here she is:

Here's a picture with her fantastic ballet teacher, Miss Andrea:

Andrea has been Kaiya's ballet teacher for the last 3 years. Andrea started teaching ballet 3 years ago and Kaiya's her only student that has been with her all 3 years. Sadly, Kaiya is moving up to the real ballet classes and so Miss Andrea will no longer be her teacher.

After the recital, we gave her some pretty yellow roses for the job well-done and then we went to Red Robin and Baskin Robbins. It was a special evening.

Good job, sweet girl!
