Cinderella Rides the Short Carriage

Once again I was reminded why we always buy our birthday cakes instead of make them.

Lindsay thought it would be a good idea to make one herself, and let's just say that Ace of Cakes won't be calling anytime soon to schedule a guest appearance.

The photo to your left illustrates what the cake should look like when finished – thin neck, soft-looking skin, beautiful blue eyes – A cake any 3 year old girl would love to have at her princess birthday party.

Instead, we had to tear into a piece of Cinderella's swamp creature cousin and wonder what she did to deserve someone pushing her down the stairs. The first thing Kaiya said when she saw the cake: "Who punch her in tha face?"

Yeah, remember that scene at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark where the Nazis' and creepy Asian guy's faces melt? Well, imagine that one of the Disney Princesses was there as well and that will give you a good idea of what the cake looked like.

Kaiya blew out the candles and ate it just fine {she was a big fan of the pink dress}, but she refuses to eat any part of the face.

"I no yike the face. Her eyes are scary."

Perhaps next year we'll just call Dairy Queen.

I'm laughing out loud. Kaiya says the funniest things! That cake is better than anything I could make! I think it's hilarious that Kaiya won't eat the face! Too cute!!!

I think it turned out pretty good! That is funny that Kaiya wouldn't eat the face, I have never attempted to make a "person" cake for that very reason, I can never get it smooth enough. Still good job Lindsay, I think it looks cute!

Good effort, Lindsay! I think it's much better than I could've done. I love that Kaiya wouldn't eat the face. What a goof!

Linds, you did a great job! Sure, I'm a little weary of the nightmares I'll have tonight imaginig Cinderella's face melting off in the middle of the ballroom, but I'll get over it.

Really, the cake is great. Homemade is always better!

Melting skin or not, your cake has way more "character" than some boughten cake. A boughten cake won't be talked about 20 years later, this one will. By the way happy birthday to you as well!

So funny! I'm impressed you would try such a big cake Lindsay. I would have had a breakdown after doing just the cake. How long did it take?

3 yr olds are so funny, no filters. Just tellin it like it is.

I think it's awesome when mom's actually take the time to do a personally made cake for birthdays. This was so funny though, and it's great that you can joke about it. I can tell you have a fun family and you guys have great times together.

I just found out about your blog, and I have to say this is quite possibly the hardest I have ever laughed at a blog. Jared, you are hilarious. Your comparisons were dead on...I mean, Lindsay, the cake looked great! Kaiya's comments were classic.

I am SUPER impressed. Kaiya should consider herself one lucky girl to have such a cool, cake making, mamma. Eliza wanted a Cinderella cake for her 4th birthday so I bought a chocolate cake at Costco and stuck a Cinderella Polly Pocket on it. I took the easy way out.

This was just too funny. Lindsay, I'm so glad you tried. It's really not that bad, though. But Kaiya's comments and Jared's comparisons are killing me!! Hilarious!
